Discussion: Living by God’s Word

October 25, 2009

Today I had a conversation with my prodigal daughter.  As we were talking about what was going on in her life, something she said hit me like a ton of bricks.  The enemy (who does not deserve to have the ‘e’ capitalized in my humble opinion) began telling me ‘Give up, I have her now!  You will never win.   She is mine!’  I cried out to God saying ‘Lord, bring her back to you. Restore our beloved daughter.   She is drifting further into the lifestyle. Please do something!’

Just then, I walked into my kitchen and I saw it – the plaque with the familiar verse that is one of many to which I cling.  Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  Once again I am reminded my hope is in Him and He is at work even if I cannot see it.  Of that I am certain.  Praise God!

What Bible verses are giving you strength and comfort on your journey? Please share your favorites with other parents.

  1. Bible verse which gives me strength & comfort during this journey where our daughter is in same sex relationship & has cutoff all communication with us. It’s been almost a year since we have heard from her. We love her & miss her.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer & supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts & minds through Christ Jesus.
    Phil 4: 6-7

  2. The Bible verse that gives me strengh and comfort is Haggai 2:9. “The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house”.

    Love this scripture!!

  3. One of the scriptures that has given me peace during many “valleys of the 12,000’s” where I’ve sojourned is Isiah 26vs3. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusteth in Thee.” Whenever I start to feel fear, or pain this scripture is powerful! Followed by “Be still and know that I am God.” It keeps me from jack-rabbiting emotionally, which is senseless. I’m going to write down the other scriptures you’ve shared-they are beautiful.Thankyou so much. There is such power in the Word of God. Whoever or wherever our children are-I believe He loves us most when we are most unloveable. He proved that on the Cross! It’s when we need Him most. That goes for us parents too. Thanks, Janet for this opportunity to share…………………In Christ, Patti

  4. For some reason, I was drawn to this site today, and I read what the “enemy” said to you. It reminded me of when I was in a gay relationship (my last one before I left the gay lifestyle for good), and one night I was with my girlfriend at my place, laughing and having a good time after having gone to a show that night, when I saw an overshadowing of the devil over my girlfriend. I felt very afraid (since I had never seen anything like this before), and the devil through her reached out his hand towards mine to grab it and told me “you are mine.” Scared, I rejected his (my girlfriend’s hand) by slapping it away. After that, it was like my girlfriend had come out of a momentary daze.

Unfortunately, I was far from the Lord at the time, and did not even have enough sense to call on “Jesus” name during or after the experience, (or even to talk about this to a priest/pastor). The whole experience just left me incredibly scared (a fright that lasted 24 hours or so) until I started to reason and decided to brush the whole experience off as something not possibly “real”.

Having read your story, since this happened to me months before I went on a retreat that lead me to leave my girlfriend and the gay community, I can only hope for your daughter that this is also true, that Satan frightened to loose her through your prayers and faith, is manifesting himself to you in this way.

All I would say, is keep up the good work. 🙂

    Bible Chapter:

(True wisdom is to observe God’s commandments. The ways of God are unsearcheable). Ecclesiastes Chapter 8

  5. My absolute favorite verse at this time is:
“This is what the Lord says: Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, declares the Lord. They will return from the land of the enemy. So there is hope for your future, declares, the Lord. YOUR CHILDREN WILL RETURN TO THEIR OWN LAND”. (Jeremiah 31:16-17)

  6. I hold tight to Jeremiah 29:11-13…”For I know the plans I have for you…then you will call upon me and come to pray to me, and I will listen. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

I have to remind myself often that God is in control, He alone is able to bring my son to Him, to remove the darkness that lies around him and to remove the scales that have formed on his eyes. I know my son loves me and his dad, he calls when he needs something or wants to talk but he keeps his distance when he is unable to stand the light of Jesus. God knows the plans for my son’s life, He is in control!
